Finland VAT Calculator

Calculate the VAT amount and total price when you know the VAT rate. You can also work backwards from a VAT-inclusive price to find the net price and VAT.

How to use the calculator

Add VAT: enter the price before VAT. The calculator adds VAT and shows the VAT amount and total customer price.

Remove VAT: enter the price including VAT. The calculator works backwards and shows the VAT-free price and VAT included in the total.

VAT rate: choose the rate that actually applies to the goods or service. The calculator does not decide which VAT rate applies.

VAT basics in Finland

What is VAT?

Value-added tax (VAT, or arvonlisävero) is a consumption tax charged on most goods and services. A VAT-registered business generally adds VAT to taxable sales, collects it from customers, reports it to the Finnish Tax Administration, and may deduct eligible VAT included in business purchases.

Current main VAT rates

  • 25.5% — the general rate, used for most goods and services.
  • 13.5% — a reduced rate covering, among other things, food, restaurant services, accommodation, books and certain passenger transport and cultural/sports services.
  • 10% — currently used mainly for newspapers and magazines.

The applicable rate depends on what is being sold and the VAT rules for that transaction. Some sales are zero-rated or exempt. Check the current Finnish rules before invoicing.

Do I need to register for VAT?

In Finland, the small-business VAT threshold is €20,000 of turnover in a calendar year. If your VAT-liable turnover exceeds €20,000, VAT registration and VAT liability generally start from the date the threshold is exceeded. A business can also register voluntarily when the conditions are met.

Example

If your service price is €100 before VAT and the applicable rate is 25.5%, VAT is €25.50 and the customer pays €125.50 in total. If the customer price is €125.50 including 25.5% VAT, the VAT-free price is €100.00 and the VAT included is €25.50.

Important: This calculator is for general estimation. It does not determine whether your business or a particular sale is subject to VAT, which VAT rate applies, or whether a purchase is deductible. VAT rules can depend on the product, service, customer, location and transaction. Information checked October 2026.
